about

I wrote ALPHA a few years back, while dating, or rather attempting to date, a fellow introvert. We share our birthday and are uncannily alike in many ways, like being forward in text messages but painfully awkward in person, each waiting for the other, but neither being willing to make the first move. The lyrics reflect my interior dialogue as I tried (and failed) to take the lead in the situation.

Mark and I explored more rhythmic and uptempo vibes on our upcoming project, pulling more electronic elements and inspiration from the world of retro-gaming into the music and mixing up our repertoire with some danceable, feel-good tunes that continue to show our love of big choruses and bigger guitar solos!

lyrics

(Ah, ah-oooooooooooo)

When we're alone
Just you & I
We laugh and joke
We talk and vibe
You're so at ease
I don't know why
I'm still so shy

You meet my eyes
I lick my lips
Must occupy
My fingertips
They want your touch
They want it bad
But I'll hold back

(Ah, ah-oooooooooooo)
I think it's time we lay this on the line
(Ah, ah-oooooooooooo)
Whoa, will you be the alpha or should I?

Some simple act
I've got to try
A hug hello
A kiss goodbye
Don't have the nerve
I'm such a fool
I lose my cool

I want to ask
I need to know
It's too late now
To let this go
So in my head
So filled with doubt
I chicken out

(Ah, Ah-Oooooooooooo)
I think it's time we lay this on the line
(Ah, Ah-Oooooooooooo)
Whoa, will you be the alpha or should I?

I never got the hang of
Trusting in myself, you see
But my instincts tell me that something's there
In the air between us
Tell me is it worth the risk
To upgrade this flirtationship
Or have I gone and gotten this so wrong
So very, very wrong

(Ah, Ah-Oooooooooooo)
I think it's time we lay this on the line
(Ah, Ah-Oooooooooooo)
Whoa, will you be the alpha or should I?
I feel the chemistry and
I want to reach for your hand
Just waiting on that green light baby
One of us has got to take the lead
Who's it gonna be?

We incorporate retro gaming elements, guitar solos, science fiction metaphors or whatever other dorky stuff comes to us. We aim for fresh but nostalgic. ... more
